Changing the battery

If you want to change the battery this is possible, but you will need some basic knowledge of mechanics and the neccessary tools, eg. small crosstip screwdrivers and a soldering iron usable for fine electronic soldering. If you are unsure that you can do this: don't! You'll damage your little friend. Look for some relative or friend who is able to do this. I aim to give additional informations about the battery here.

3D Printed Vector Charger

Disclaimer: This is a work in progress and partial experimental. Aside from that I have no idea about CAD and created the charger 3D model in Cinema 4D, so there is most probably room for improvement. But you can do so, as can be seen here.

A Dismantled Vector

For your utter horror, here is an image of a dismantled Vector. Have no fear, it was a dead one with a defect CPU unit. I will most probably revive it later, if and when I get another defect one from Ebay as an organ donor. It is not dismantled completely, you can take some parts further apart, but this is enough for a lot of things to mod, e.g. changing the battery or adding a heatsink.

Information on the display

I was able to find some information on the display used in Vector that may be helpful.

It is from the manufacturer Santek (San Technology, Inc., San Diego, California), the model number is ST0103A2W-WSNLW-F. You can find the information on

Installing a heatsink

... and general overheating advice

Some Vectors are reported to get quite hot and overheat, recognizable by a thermometer symbol shown in the display. The safe operation temperature for a Vector is up to max 30 degrees Celsius, above that Vector will overheat way more frequently. It is possible to install heatsinks on the processor to get that better, but there are things to try first:
